FIRE PUMP SYSTEM

firepump — Fire pump systems

Engine repair, pump repair, pressure and performance testing to NFPA 25, with certification reports signed by a licensed mechanical engineer.

Why the firepump matters

The fire pump (firepump) supplies water pressure to the fire protection system, both sprinklers and fire hose systems. If the pump fails on the day of a fire, the entire building's fire protection becomes useless.

NFPA 25 therefore requires regular churn tests and a full annual performance test to confirm that the pump still delivers water as designed.

Frequently asked questions

How often must the firepump be test-run?
NFPA 25 requires a no-flow churn test every week for diesel engines and every month for electric motors, plus a full annual flow test.
What does a performance test cover?
Water delivery is tested at three key points — shutoff (no flow), rated capacity (100%) and overload (150%) — measuring pressure, flow and engine speed, then plotted against the pump's original curve.
Why does a firepump engine fail to start?
Common causes are a worn battery, air or contamination in the fuel system, clogged injectors, a faulty starting controller, or cooling system problems. These should be fixed immediately, as this is the building's primary safety equipment.
How long does an engine repair take?
It depends on the work. Replacing consumables or fixing general faults usually takes 1-2 days, while a full engine overhaul takes longer. We always confirm the schedule and scope before starting work.
