FIRE SUPPRESSION

firesuppression — Automatic fire suppression systems

Design, installation and maintenance of automatic clean agent suppression systems using FM200, NOVEC 1230, IG100 and NN100, to NFPA 2001.

What is a clean agent suppression system?

An automatic fire suppression system (firesuppression) using clean agents releases gas or chemical agent into a sealed room when a fire is detected, without using water, so electrical and electronic equipment is not damaged.

It suits areas holding high-value assets where water cannot be used — server rooms, data centres, electrical control rooms, document archives and generator rooms. Each agent has different properties, so the choice should match the room size and how the space is used.

HFC-227ea

FM200

The most widely used clean agent. Discharges within 10 seconds and needs little cylinder storage space — ideal for small to medium server rooms.

FK-5-1-12

NOVEC 1230

Very low GWP and environmentally friendly. Stored as a liquid at atmospheric pressure and safe for electronic equipment.

Nitrogen 100%

IG100

Pure nitrogen that leaves no residue and has zero ozone impact — suited to large rooms and industrial areas.

Nitrogen clean agent

NN100

A nitrogen system for spaces that need a non-conductive agent that is safe for both people and assets.

Frequently asked questions

Which rooms suit an automatic suppression system?
Sealed rooms holding assets easily damaged by water — server rooms, data centres, main distribution boards, electrical control rooms, document archives and generator rooms. The room must be tight enough to hold the agent for the period required by the standard.
How often must agent cylinders be weighed?
NFPA 2001 requires inspection and weighing at least once a year. If agent weight or pressure falls below the limit, the cylinder must be refilled or replaced immediately so the system still performs as designed.
Are clean agents dangerous to people?
Clean agents such as FM200 and NOVEC 1230 are designed for occupied spaces at standard design concentrations, but the system must still include a pre-discharge alarm and an abort station so occupants can leave in time. CO2 systems are life-threatening and must not be used in normally occupied areas.
How long does installation take?
It depends on room size and system complexity. A medium-sized server room typically takes 1-2 weeks from installation to completed commissioning. We survey the site and confirm a clear schedule before starting.
