The most widely used clean agent in server rooms and electrical rooms. Discharges within 10 seconds and needs little cylinder storage space.
FM200, or HFC-227ea, is a halocarbon clean agent that extinguishes fire by absorbing heat from the combustion reaction. It is stored as a liquid under nitrogen pressure and turns to gas on discharge, filling the room within 10 seconds.
Its main advantage is that it needs far less cylinder storage space than inert gas systems, making it suitable for buildings with limited plant room space. It leaves no residue, is non-conductive and therefore safe for electronic equipment, and can be used in occupied spaces at standard design concentrations.

| Agent | FM200 (HFC-227ea) |
|---|---|
| Design concentration | Approx. 7-9% by volume |
| Discharge time | Within 10 seconds |
| Storage | Liquid under nitrogen pressure, 25 or 42 bar |
| Residue | None |
| Conductivity | Non-conductive, safe for electrical equipment |
| Standards | NFPA 2001, ISO 14520 |
| Typical areas | Server rooms, MDB rooms, control rooms, archives |
Consideration: FM200 has a higher GWP than NOVEC 1230. If a more environmentally friendly system is required, NOVEC 1230 is worth comparing.
